About Event

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a standard-based, short-range (a few centimeters) wireless connectivity technology that

  • Enables simple and safe two-way interactions among electronics devices
  • Allow consumers to perform contactless transactions,
  • Access digital content and connect electronic devices.

The future of NFC is as promising as it has continually gained attention from around the world. According to a recent study by ABI Research, it is expected that 50% of mobile phones will support NFC by 2009; 500+ million handsets would be NFC-enabled by 2010; and by 2007, higher-volume NFC device would be deployed, first in wireless handsets, then in other kinds of consumer electronics. The research firm concluded that the technology can "show tremendous promise of enhancing end user experiences while reshaping communications, content and payment business models."

Currently, NFC and mobile payment projects are under way in many countries in America, Asia and Europe. Heated discussions were also conducted in NFC Forums worldwide. To maintain Hong Kongˇ¦s position as a prominent metropolitan with a technical edge, also to acknowledge the rapid development of NFC and the benefits it can bring to businesses and the public, the proposed NFC Conference 2007 can be an ideal platform to enable ideas exchange and encourage R&D, as well as to entice technology adoption on the area of NFC.
